FEBRUARY 21, 2013.  Friendship News Network (FNN) took a trip to the Washington Post to make a presentation, to hear from other high school students, and to hear Mary Beth Tinker. Angelique Dove and Regina McDuffy spoke to the audience about what FNN does. Mary Beth Tinker wore a black armband in junior high school in 1965 to protest the Vietnam war. She was kicked out of school when she was told she couldn’t wear the armband to protest, so she wore black for the remainder of the school year. She felt that her first amendment rights had been violated so she took her case to the Supreme Court and won.

Mary Tinker took time out to speak to our group and we spoke to her about FNN and thanked her for making a difference and standing for what she believed in. She spoke about what a wonderful job we all did representing our school.

Stephanie Spencer is a sophomore, Gladys Keitt is a freshman and Adonis Miller is a 2010 graduate of Friendship Collegiate Academy.
